Allen B. MacKenzie

Professor MacKenzie appointed to CSMAC

In October 2016, Professor MacKenzie was appointed to the Commerce Spectrum Management Advisory Committee (CSMAC) for a two-year term. This committee advises the Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Communications and Information on major spectrum policy issues for the benefit of the American people. Committee members offer expertise and perspectives on reforms to enable new technologies and services.

This committee is primarily advisory to the National Telecommunications & Information Administration (NTIA), which is an agency of the Department of Commerce. In the United States, radio spectrum regulation is handled by two agencies: The NTIA and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The FCC is an independent agency of the U.S. government and manages the commercial use of the radio frequency spectrum; the NTIA, situated in the Department of Commerce, manages the radio frequency spectrum for U.S. Federal Government users.

Professor MacKenzie will attend his first CSMAC meeting in January, 2017.
